Blossom Series

“Blossom Series” is a project that explores how objects can come to embody memories and tell a deeper story. Each of the floral pieces represented here relates to a moment or a thread of stories from my life. The flowers serve as a metaphor for time, because, like time, these flowers are transitory.

In the same way we can only relive memories through images, these flowers can only be enjoyed for years to come through their paintings

Wedding Bouquet

Painting this bouquet has been a way to reminisce the beauty of my wedding day and many moments leading up to it. Watching the piece unfold before my eyes was its own beautiful process that knit together many memories for me to hang on my wall.

These flowers zoom in on a small detail woven into the memories that day is made up of. Rather than remembering our day as a flash, through oil paint I can commemorate the little things that expressed care for our celebration. This bundle of blossoms represents days of planning and preparation surrounded by family. It reminds me of my mom who helped me select the flowers, my grandma who arranged them, and my matron of honor who snapped the reference photo for me amidst the rush of activities.

Lastly, of course, this piece betokens stolen moments with my husband, walking through a forest for pictures, driving alone to the ceremony venue, and finally standing at the altar. Now I have something to remind me of all these memories for years to come.

Blossoming Bud

“Blossoming Bud” displays the beauty of the process of a bud blooming into a flower. The bud is beautiful in its own right, but has yet to transform into its full form.

In a way, we are all like this bud, in every stage of life. No matter how much we grow there will still be more maturing to look forward to in coming chapters of life, adding depth and complexity; challenge and untold blessing.

Resilient Rose

“Resilient Rose” memorializes a bud waring against the cold of November. Unfazed by the season, this flower blazes on in allure, inspiring us to bear life’s hard seasons with grace.

My goal with this piece was to use only tertiary colors. In application these often ran adjacent to their complement. This color palette works with a high level of chroma to create a feeling of intensity reflective of the flower’s strained state.
